Simulation Sickness

So, apparently, it turns out that I have something called Simulation sickness, which basically makes me get nauseated and motion sick while playing certain games that are in first-person view or even have weird camera motions. I can easily get sick off the motions in many games, including my current obsession Skyrim.

All I can think of is my scumbag brain right now laughing at me as it makes me love a game and then gives me a headache and nausea when I play it. I’m not sure why I was ‘blessed’ with something that makes me feel like death when I’m doing something I love so much.

I never exactly knew why it happened, but it happens in everything lately, especially Skyrim, Minecraft, and other games from that kind of view-point. It helps a bit for me to go into third-person for Skyrim, but I still end up getting sick after a couple of hours because of the shift in positioning and the camera scraping along my back and changing depth when I’m in a cave or something else. This used to happen in City of Heroes as well during cave missions and is the reason I couldn’t do them when I played– I’d sit at the start of the mission and make everyone else do work and feel terrible about it– but it was either that or I got really sick for a while.

Right now I’m tending to a small case of the sickness I got from playing Skyrim earlier (I only played for about an hour or so, don’t worry), but I kind of miss being able to marathon certain things. This might be why I gravitate towards games like World of Warcraft, or old school RPGs and the like– it lacks the ‘realism’ or angle that causes most Simulation Sickness.

Apparently, there is the option to take some medication used for motion sickness and the like to try and avert it, but dramamine makes one drowsy most of the time and we lack peppermints or anything like that. Besides, they don’t avert the headache.

It’s almost like I just took an eight hour flight and wasn’t hydrated at all (it has happened– only it wasn’t eight hours, it was like four hours and I wasn’t hydrated because I didn’t drink enough water back then and I had a headache so bad I wanted to die as well as nausea. It was miserable.)

Regardless of that, I’m not going to give up my games, but I definitely need to find a work around to this, considering every time I turn around I’m finding out I can’t play something I want to because of my ‘condition’.

Engineering Careers

I have this friend who went into Engineering after High School. I honestly can’t remember what kind he is, but I know that he said he’s forgotten how to write properly since he started doing all the complicated math involved, though he does seem happy with what he does. I’m unaware, to a degree, what it takes to become a mechanical engineer, but there is some stability in mechanical engineer careers.

While the market falls apart all around us and people are getting laid off, it’s hard to think that the people who actually produce the vehicles themselves would get thrown to the side, as the entire thing would collapse in on itself and they’d have nothing to sell. There’s something about being that specified in your field that you are almost irreplaceable. With www.onlineuniversities.net you can get a engineering degree and prepare for a rewarding career at GM. If I had the head for math, I’d consider the option of joining the field and learning, and I honestly might propose it to my boyfriend since he’s crazy into mechanics and wants something he’ll enjoy doing.

Besides, it’d be cool to build some kind of Steampunk monstrosity in your spare time just because you know what you’re doing and you love doing it.

Being in Business

Authored by Greg Fletcher

Being in business for yourself isnâ??t nearly as scary as some people make it sound â?? Iâ??ve actually had a really good run as a professional organizer. Thereâ??s something to be said for making your own schedules and really helping each client in a customizable, personal way. I had a lot of work to do when I first got started â?? there wasnâ??t a ton of overhead other than the gas in my car and the merchant services but it was totally worth it in the end. I get to decide which days I work and which days I donâ??t and itâ??s been really fun to see the finished product in most of my cases. I actually do a lot of work with hoarders which is tough because those clients have a lot of really sad issues but itâ??s nice to know I can help them even if it is in a small way. I donâ??t know, itâ??s just like anything I can do is more than what some people are doing and thatâ??s good enough for me.

AVR-3312CI receiver

My dad was always huge on getting new receivers for the house. The man loved stereos, and because of that, we always had nearly every room outfitted for the best sound with the most adaptable set-ups we could have at the time, and I have no doubt that if it were possible, he’d have the AVR-3312CI receiver in his entertainment system right now.

It’s state of the art and features HDMI capability to get amazing sound from all your 3D media, as well as AirPlay, which allows you to stream wirelessly to the receiver through your iPod or other MP3 device with that function. While my dad isn’t big on MP3 players, I’m sure he’d like the option if it were available, just in case he ever got on board with the whole portable music collection thing.

My dad was always huge with these things, but when it came to installation, sometimes he found himself a little frustrated, and so did the rest of us trying to help, but with the AVR-3312CI receiver, set up is a snap with its Audyssey MultEQ XT, GUI overlay, and remote control. Everything will work fluidly in no time, and that would make for a happy Papa.

I know that, should I ever be able, I’m going to get this for him so he can play around again with something he loves!

Holiday Wishlist

I’m not expecting much in the way of gifts this year, as we’re on a tighter budget than we usually are, but I’m going to go ahead and throw a few things out there that might be amazing to get if anyone were feeling utterly generous.

  • Anything from my Amazon.com Wishlist. It has been updated recently and reflects a few things I both need and kind of just want. <3
  • Books, while I do have some on the wishlist above, I’m open to suggestions and perfectly willing to have kindle formats sent to me if they’re cheaper and such, but still also accept print books as well.
  • Any kind of Clothes I can wear– I have some stuff but we kind of shuffle through the few things we have a lot here, much like my two bras that I have to make work for everything– if you’re interested in this I can tell you sizes, though I’m not expecting anything.
  • I know it makes me sound silly and fat, but See’s Candies makes an amazing gift, and thanks to my best friend I’m in love with their apple truffles and blueberry truffles in particular, though all their chocolate is fantastic– I lean towards dark.
  • Last, but not least, a trip home, though this one is kind of impossible for anyone to provide for me, it’s something I do want because it matters to me, but I understand my limitations.
  • It’s a short list and it’s pretty much the same stuff I always want, but it feels nice to just be able to write it down and feel like it’s out there in case anyone were feeling particularly generous. Being broke sucks, I know that much– but honestly the best thing people can do for me this holiday is donate their money to charity, or at least a portion of it because there are tons of people who are worse off than I am, and I hate to think that I’d be getting something and someone would be going without.
