sally the ragdoll
with a heart as big as the outdoorsSally was the main female and love interest of the protagonist Jack Skellington in Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Though she was seen mostly as this secondary type of deal by most of the people in Halloweentown, she saw things more clearly than most of them did, and was not pulled in by the hype on 'Christmas'. Beyond that, though, she was just downright awesome. She existed to just exist, and was utterly and completely devoted to this guy who she could swear didn't even see her half the time, and I honestly can relate to that.
There's something about devotion that makes us stupid sometimes, but she managed to keep her down-to-earth attitude even through all this, being the voice of reason in the entire movie, and in the end, being the true saviour as a whole. At least in my eyes. :D
Not only was she awesome, but her song might be my favourite from the movie, as follows.
lyricsI sense there's something in the wind
That feels like tragedy's at hand
And though I'd like to stand by him
Can't shake this feeling that I have
The worst is just around the bend
And does he notice, my feelings for him?
And will he see, how much he means to me?
I think it's not to be
What will become of my dear friend?
Where will his actions lead us then?
Although I'd like to join the crowd
In their enthusiastic cloud
Try as I may, it doesn't last
And will we ever, end up together?
No, I think not, it's never to become
For I am not the one
Tell me that isn't the most heartbreaking song from an 'animated' film ever?! Well, heart-breaking in that way that I think all of us might have been there at some point. :)
